Karachi is brimming with social events, charity events, avenues for entertainment, shopping markets. It cannot get better when you can find all of those in one place, at one time.

Flea Market for a Cause is a two-day shopping event hosted by Nida Faisal and friends, where all clothes on sale have been donated, proceeds from which go to CareForHealth and Kiran Foundation, organisations working towards psychiatric rehabilitation and education, respectively.

Nida Faisal, the brains behind the event, is driven by the will to raise funds and awareness for the two organisations. “My expectation out of the flea market is to raise funds but also to raise awareness, and that has actually worked – people who didn’t know about these charities are now asking questions about them,” says Nida.

The flea market also comes at an opportune time; right before Ramzan, making it the official season to give and the fast approaching summer vacation time making it the perfect place to shop for your break!

‘..Because people plan to travel after Ramzan, we have everything they will need for their summer vacay shopping – you don’t want to be spending a lot on those clothes, but also want nice dresses and cute things, and we have them all,” explains Nida.

Alizeh Valjee, co-founder of CareForHealth, is looking forward to co-hosting the event alongside Nida. “I loved this concept for a fundraiser because often a fundraiser can be something that people feel compelled to participate in. A flea market is something we all banded together for and are really enjoying curating.”

CareForHealth rehabilitates adults with mental illness, and then facilitates recovered clients (patients) into employment.

Kiran Foundation provides education, empowerment, and engagement for communities in Lyari through schools and community development programs.

The event is due to be held at House # SSA1/A/1, Main Sunset Boulevard Phase 2, on Saturday, 12th May, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm and Sunday, 13th May, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

See you there!
