Five Reasons To Look Forward To Chhalawa

Latest   March 29, 2019
This should definitely be on your list of things to do this Eid!

Teaser of  Wajahat Rauf’s latest movie, Chhalawa is here and we can’t stop praising Mehwish Hayat and Azfar Rehman for their on-screen chemistry.

Except for Mehwish and Azfar, the cast of the movie includes Zara Noor Abbas, Asad Siddiqui, Ashir Wajahat, Mahmood Aslam and Adnan Shah Tipu. Here we give you a quick roundup why you should be looking forward to Chhalawa this Eid.

The Fiery Mehwish Hayat

In what can be termed as her first film after receiving the Civil Award, Mehwish Hayat is all set to set the screen on fire with her dance moves, her acting and above all, her ability to carry a film forward.

No actress since Babra Sharif and Shabnam (and maybe Neeli in the 90s) has been able to steer multiple films towards success like Mehwish Hayat who refused to go to Punjab in Punjab Nahi Jaungi, aided a fake lawyer do the right thing in Actor In Law and helped her in-laws by winning big in Load Wedding.

In her scenes in her first film with Wajahat Rauf’s Showcase Films, Mehwish Hayat does what she does the best – standout and deliver by being the best in the business. She may seem to be doing Punjab Nahi Jaungi all over again but trust me, when it comes to Mehwish the film actress, she surprises all.

The Gorgeous Zara Noor Abbas Siddiqui

She may not have worked in a film before but Zara Noor Abbas Siddiqui is the third generation from her family to appear in films; her grandfather Ahmed Bashir was a noted journalist who wrote and directed Neela Parbat in the late 60’s whereas her aunt Bushra Ansari has been part of both films and TV for a long time.

Even her mother Asma Abbas worked in a couple of films including Maan Jao Na last year, so doing a film was always a possibility for the talented actress. So far, she has proved that she is good with roles that require her to cry, but here she gets to dance, whistle and cry at the same time.

Let’s hope her film debut takes her career forward so that we can see more of her in the future, both on the big and small screens.

Shiraz Uppal As Music Composer

Shiraz Uppal is perhaps the best music composer in the country and to have him in a film is a guarantee that the songs would do well. He knows how to handle situational songs, has a good reputation with all the playback singers in the country and has AR Rehman on his speed dial.

So far only one song has been unveiled in the teaser and even that is catchy for the audience. Let’s hope he manages to compose a soundtrack that is not just listenable and hummable. After all, he has visited the same kind of setup in Punjab Nahi Jaungi and we all know how its fantabulous track turned out to be.

The Boys In The Background

And for once we have a film where the boys make up the B team. Azfar Rehman might be doing his first film as a leading man but both he and Asad Siddiqui play second fiddle, says the trailer, not me. Add the versatile Aashir Wajahat (the producer ka beta, as he rightly called himself in Lahore Se Aagay) and you have a trio that can make you laugh out loud.

It would be interesting to see how Mehmood Aslam carries forward his film career which received a boost after last year’s Teefa In Trouble which was his first film in over 2 decades. And then there is Mohsin Ejaz and Adnan Shah Tipu probably as the villains and if Mohsin does fifty percent of what he did in his last play with Anwar Maqsood, he will be a treat to watch.

The Return of Wajahat Rauf and Yasir Hussain

The last time these two were there in a film, it was Lahore Se Aagay and even though the film was released at a time when Pakistani cinema was in bad state, it managed to pull the audience because it had Saba Qamar in it.

This time, Yasir Hussain is only there as a co-writer since he is currently busy in Naach Na Janay with Anwar Maqsood and Wajahat Rauf is left to handle the screenplay, production, and direction. His first web series Enaaya – also featuring Mehwish Hayat, Azfar Rehman and Asad Siddiqui – may not have reached the audience the way he anticipated, but films remains a territory he has conquered before.

Let’s hope that the film doesn’t come out as something in the vein of Punjab Nahi Jaungi and helps the Pakistan film industry move forward at a time when Indian films are not being screened, selected Hollywood films are being released and people are waiting to see their favorite actors including Fawad Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Mahira Khan, Humaima Malick, Sami Khan, Neelam Muneer, and Yasir Nawaz in The Legend of Maula Jatt and Wrong Number 2 on Eid ul Fitr.
